Teacher Profile

Kaylene Peets
Accepting New Students

Studied and tested through the Royal Conservatory in Canada, 1990-1994. BA in Design 1982.

I am originally from the west but lived in Montreal and Ottawa, Canada. I moved to the Triangle from Ottawa, Canada in 2001 with family for my husband’s job. I have been teaching piano for close to 20 years in my home studio.
Instruments/Styles Taught

I have taught piano to children as young as 4 and to adults as old as 63. I enjoy trying to figure out how best to motivate my students and how to connect with them on a personal level so that we have a great time together each week.

Personal philosophy: If I’m bored, chances are they are, too. I try to be newly excited about whatever music they’re playing.

We have peer parties here in my home 3 times a year to help them get used to performing to smaller crowds. I have built a sense of community within our studio.

I believe in teaching creatively and in teaching students to be creative. We spend time using building blocks of music to improvise. I have them play on the digital to create various moods and motifs.

We have motivational contests each semester. We have core character values we are trying to develop through the discipline of music mastery.

I enjoy getting parent feedback!
